1934 Alvis Speed 20 SB Charlesworth Sports Saloon
This 1934 Alvis Speed 20 SB Charlesworth Sports Saloon was despatched from the Alvis factory on 20th March 1934 and was sold by Brooklands Motor Company and first registered on 3rd July 1934. It was acquired by its third owner in the mid 1990’s who embarked on a sympathetic body off rebuild which resulted in, the seldom obtained, desirable balance between restoration and conservation. This work culminated in the car having its first ever MOT on 16th June 1997 with a recorded mileage of 34388. The recorded mileage still stands at fewer than 41000 which may well be the true mileage, bearing in mind that this car was not used for 41 years (1956-1997) and is likely to have been laid up during World War Two. During the 6000 mile period that this car has been returned to the road, it has been continually fettled and further improved.
The Charlesworth Mark 111 coachwork is considered by most people to be the prettiest saloon body ever fitted to the Alvis Speed model chassis and this is an original and distinctive English car with great provenance that includes all matching numbers to its original works build sheet.
Supplied with this car will be a current V5C registration document, MOT Test Certificate, Buff RF 60 log book, restoration photographs and to complete the picture a photograph of this car within the gates of Buckingham Palace on the occasion when it was invited to be the sole Alvis amongst 80 English cars paraded in front of Her Majesty The Queen as part of Her Majesty’s 80th Birthday celebrations.
