1960 Daimler SP250
With a production run of just 2645 between 1959 – 1964, the SP250 was always a rather exclusive sports car. The model was initially named “Dart” but, due to threat of legal action by Chrysler, as a Dodge with that designation was already being produced, the name was soon changed. Powered by the superb turbine-smooth aluminium V8 unit designed by Edward Turner, the SP250 would sprint from 0 – 60 in 8 seconds, with a top speed approaching 125 mph – very impressive performance for a sports car of 2.5 litres at that time.
This example was first registered on 28th April 1960 and has clearly undergone much refurbishment and meticulous maintenance over the ensuing years. Finished in Ivory, it looks most striking with red wire wheels – redolent of sports cars of an earlier period. The interior trim is in black leather as original and the specification includes the optional front bumper and tonneau cover.
The car was exhibited at The International Classic Motor Show some ten years ago and photos are supplied. Also included in the file of documents is the original RF60 buff logbook, driver’s handbook and extensive information on the model, along with numerous bills and the original sales brochure. The car has a current MOT certificate until June 2012.
