1962 Austin Healey 3000 MkIIa
The first of the Big Healey models to benefit from a proper folding hood and winding windows, the MkIIa (BJ7 Series) appeared in 1962. This improvement was well received and widened the appeal of the car considerably, as refinement was now being demanded by a new breed of sports car buyers.
As with earlier models, a considerable proportion of production was destined for overseas – especially North America. Original UK supplied cars are now very much in the minority and this example of the Mklla was first registered in Liverpool in September 1962 and retains the original distinctive registration number. A three owner car, it has been with the present owner for the past 22 years and has covered 96,000 miles from new. It has covered less than 3,000 miles since 1988.
Much money has been spent on it, including an engine rebuild approximately 1500 miles ago. Considerable body restoration was also undertaken around 7 years ago. The red leather interior trim is original and in good order and overall the car presents very well. The wire wheels have recently been renewed and the period Lucas foglamps are a useful extra. Numerous bills and previous MOT certificates are supplied, along with a workshop manual.
The current MOT is valid until July 2012. A Heritage Sheet is also included showing the car to be to original specification. Being sold reluctantly due to lack of time to enjoy, this Healey is competitively priced and represents good value.
