1923 Austin 12/4 Tourer
Probably one of the most widely-recognised of Vintage motor cars, due in no small part to the 'Gumdrop' stories for children by Val Biro, the Austin Twelve Four has survived in good numbers by virtue of its sound design and sturdy construction.
Affectionately known as ‘Elsie’, this 12/4 Tourer dates from 1923 and retains the features applicable to the earliest models including two- wheel brakes, narrow track chassis and short stroke engine.
Attractively finished in blue with black wings and interior trim, she has a good hood and two- piece tonneau cover and is in good sound order and running well – she was driven from her home in Kent to our Garage in Hampshire. Previously running with an SU carburettor, a correct type Zenith item has recently been sourced and fitted.
Interestingly the registration ‘AT 3709’ was originally issued to a very early Austin 20 and a photograph of this car is included in a copy of ‘The Modern World Book of Motors’ by Laurence H Cade which is included. Also on file are a copy of the Drivers Handbook, many invoices and information, including Vintage Austin newsletters.
A charming early example of one of this much loved model, complete with luggage carrier and trunk. Running very well, it exudes a delightful charm and patina.
A rare opportunity to acquire such an early example.
