1924 Austin Twelve Four Clifton Tourer

One of the most fondly regarded motor cars from the Vintage period, the Austin 12/4 proved remarkably durable, with many examples covering vast mileages and giving unfailing reliability well into old age. Such was their sound design and excellent build quality, that many survive today.

Originally purchased in December 1924 by a Mr Thompson, a farmer from Lymington in Hampshire. The family were to retrain the car until 2003 when it was sold to a gentleman from Bath. We understand that upon his passing the Austin was transferred to his wife, who was often seen driving it around the area.

Sympathetically restored to a very good standard, the car remains of most pleasing appearance being correctly finished in the Austin livery of blue/black. Over the years the car has been carefully maintained and today this is clearly evident. The electrics have been converted to 12 volts and whilst in the present ownership the car has proved reliable as befits an Austin 12/4.

Many people of all ages recognise an Austin 12/4 Clifton, due to the charming ‘Gumdrop’ childrens‘ stories by Val Biro. This particular Austin could well be Gumdrop’s older sister - being of 1924 Vintage as opposed to Gumdrop’s 1926 birth date!

One of the best and most correct examples we have seen for some while, complete with Auster rear screen and a large touring trunk, this Austin has very good weather equipment and is ready for further adventures. Comfortable and characterful Vintage tourers are becoming hard to find, and this Austin is sure to please her next custodian.
