The Sunbeam motor car company originated in 1899 in Wolverhampton and was to produce vehicles of high quality through the Edwardian and Vintage periods, with many great sporting achievements. Their finest hour being the Land Speed Record set by Sir Henry Seagrave at Daytona Beach in March 1927, with the streamlined 1000 hp car reaching 203.79 mph.

During the second half of the 1920’s, one of their most popular models was the Sixteen (16.9 hp) which was available between 1926 – 30.

Offered here is a 1927 16.9 Tourer, presented in extremely smart order. Discovered in a garage in having been laid up for some 60 years, the car was in a sorry state and was to undergo restoration to a high standard, including a new body to exact original specification, by the highly regarded restorer, Trevor Hirst, with the work being completed around 15 years ago. A new radiator has recently been handmade by specialists at a cost of around £2500.

The car has first class weather equipment and drives very well with good hill climbing abilty.

An elegant 5 seat quality Vintage Tourer, ideal for VSCC rallies, tours and general enjoyment, it is offered for sale with an old style RF60 logbook showing the original date of registration to be 12th September 1927.

Also supplied are photos of the car as discovered, then with the new body frame being produced, along with copies of historical notes and copies of photos of the car in use in the 1950’s. A Repair and Maintenance Manual is also included.
