Founded in 1919 by T.G. John, Alvis quickly established a reputation for engineering excellence and sporting success. While the early 10/30, 11/40 and 12/40 models laid the foundations, it was the introduction of the 12/50 in 1923 that firmly established Alvis as one of Britain’s finest sporting car manufacturers.

Powered by its robust and responsive 1½-litre overhead-valve engine, the 12/50 earned an enviable reputation for reliability, touring and competition success. Today it remains one of the most highly regarded Vintage motor cars, supported by an enthusiastic owners’ club and excellent parts availability, making it an outstanding choice for rallies, touring and VSCC events alike.

A particularly smart example, this 1928 Alvis 12/50 TG Sports Tourer was rebuilt with beautifully crafted new coachwork by renowned Alvis specialists Phil Kneller and Mike Hirst. Having been owned twice by the current vendor, the car has benefited from significant recent expenditure and careful ongoing maintenance.

Recent work includes a rebuilt gearbox, renewed front springs and suspension bushes, while a new clutch plate and linings were fitted last winter. The dynamo has been professionally rebuilt, discreet LED lighting has been installed, and the ignition system has been upgraded with a coil conversion to improve reliability without compromising the car’s character.

The interior trim remains in excellent condition, complemented by a smart hood, side screens and tonneau cover.

On the road, this Alvis feels eager, responsive and remarkably confidence-inspiring. Whether tackling longer tours, local club events or simply enjoying a summer drive through the countryside, it offers the engaging driving experience for which the 12/50 has become so highly regarded.
