1928 Alvis 12/50 ‘TG’ Tourer

Originally this chassis carried an Alvista fabric saloon body by Cross & Ellis, however, as with a number of saloon bodies, this presumably had become beyond economic restoration and in 1989 the car was purchased by Alvis luminary Mike Hirst, with the intention of creating a replica Cross & Ellis Sports Tourer. An authentic replica body was built by Phil Kneller - a highly regarded coach builder, whilst the trim work and weather equipment was carried out by Anne Taylor, also known for excellent work in Alvis circles. In fact, much work on this motor car has been undertaken by the best ‘Alvis people’.

The car is not only dimensionally correct, but great care has been taken to ensure all fixtures and fittings are correct to period.

Since completion in its present form, this fine Alvis has been meticulously maintained to ensure reliable long-distance touring and has a number of Alvis register approved modifications including full flow oil filtration with spin off filter, Phoenix conrods, modified prop shaft by Kestrel Transmissions to Alvis Register design, lightweight clutch housing, 2 brush dynamo and LED lighting.

Recent work has included a full brake overhaul, with the drums skimmed and new linings manufactured to suit. A new battery has been fitted, the carburettor has been specialist reconditioned. The engine oil and filter have also just been changed.

This charming Vintage Alvis has considerable character and appeal, and is ready for new adventures.
