A delightful example of the much-loved 12/50, this motor car is one of the final ‘TJ’ Series models. Chassis number 9074, it left the Works to be bodied with ‘Atlantic’ Saloon coachwork by Carbodies, on 29th October 1931, bound for Agents Swallow & Milburn, of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

It is known that the car was fitted with twin carburettors by the Works early the following year and subsequently used as a demonstrator.

The comprehensive history is too extensive to list here, but, suffice to say it is most fascinating and follows the life of the car from its earliest days, through to the post war period, showing an engine overhaul in 1954, then progressing through the years to a major restoration carried out between 1983 – 92, with numerous photographs showing the work being undertaken.

The car is finished in Sand and Black, close to the original livery, with the red leather interior having been renewed and today it is presented in exceptional condition, the quality of the restoration being clearly evident more than 20 years after completion.

The car is featured in the hallowed tome - ‘The Vintage Alvis’ by Peter Hull and Norman Johnson (pages 331 – 338)  The original 12/50 Instruction Manual is also provided in the file, which contains one of the most detailed histories we have seen for some time, including the original Factory Build record.

In all, a very fine and usable thoroughbred sporting saloon with an impeccable pedigree, which will certainly delight its next custodian.
