1932 Alvis 12/60 TL Beetleback - Now Sold

Commencing in 1923 and making a successful competition debut the same year, the Alvis 12/50 was to become highly regarded by the sporting motorists of the period. Noted for its good handling, brisk performance and robust qualities, the 12/50 was joined in 1931 by a more powerful version – the 12/60. Featuring twin SU carburettors, this new model developed 56 bhp and, as before, was available in sports salon, four seat tourer and ‘beetleback’ two seater variants. When road tested by ‘Motor Sport’ magazine in 1931, an impressive top speed of almost 80 mph was achieved.
This example of the ‘Beetleback’ sports two seater was fitted with a new body to the correct Carsbodies design by Phil Kneller of Buxton some years ago and panelled in aluminium and photos of this work in progress are provided. The car started life as a sports saloon and old photos of it in this guise are included with the documentation. It is listed as a Beetleback by The Alvis Register.
In the present owner’s hands for the past 8 years, it is has been very carefully looked after and drives exceedingly well, feeling lively and taut as would be expected from an Alvis of this type.
The original London registration number remains with the car and a considerable amount of paperwork is provided. The car has been serviced in the last few weeks.. The hood and tonneau cover have both been recently renewed and this delightful sporting Alvis is ready for this season.
