1932 Riley 6/14 Lynx - NOW SOLD
NOW SOLD
Towards the end of 1932, Riley were to expand their already well established range of 6 cylinder models. New additions on the ‘6/12’ chassis, were the sporting ‘Kestrel’ saloon, with its sleek ‘fastback’ styling, the ‘Ascot’ drophead coupe, along with the Lincock 2 seater coupe and finally, a 4 seat sports tourer to take the place of the ageing ‘Alpine’ tourer.
This new model, designated ‘Lynx’ was low and purposeful looking, with deeply cutaway doors and a hood which, when folded, disappeared under a hinged tonneau panel.
Optional on the 6/12 chassis was the 1633cc 6/14 engine. Fitted with triple S.U carburettors, this engine developed some 50 bhp and gave the cars a very brisk performance, with a top speed of over 70 mph.
Offered here is a particularly fine example of the desirable 6/14 Lynx. This actual car is featured on page 131 of David Styles’ authoritative tome ‘As Old As The Industry’. At the time that photograph was taken – apparently in the 1970’s, the car was in excellent condition.
It was to undergo further restoration during the 1990’s by a well known Riley enthusiast, sadly no longer with us. More recently, additional work has been carried out in order to keep this car in top condition, including re-trim in light tan leather, plus general maintenance including fitment of a new water pump.
Bearing the original Coventry registration number KV 5204, having been registered by the Works, this delightful 6 cylinder sporting Riley, which is presented in close to concours condition, is sure to please the most discerning enthusiast.
