1932 Riley March Special Ex Works with Trials History - Now Sold

Approximately 53 of this model are believed to have been build, of which some 27 are identified by both chassis and registration numbers by the Riley Register.
A stylish and exclusive ‘2 plus 2’ sports model, priced at £335, the March Special was intended to sit between the outright competition models and the recently introduced Lynx tourer.
This example is especially interesting as it was first registered by the Riley Motor Company in December 1932 and used for trials by the works including the 1933 Colemore Cup where it achieved a second class award. A copy of a photograph of the car being campaigned in this event is supplied on file.
Extensive history is provided and the car has been owned by several notable Riley enthusiasts over the years. During the 1980s it was to undergo and extensive restoration to a very high standard which included a complete chassis overhaul, re-cored radiator and new stoneguard whilst the ash framework was strengthened and reskinned in aluminium and new wings made in aluminium to original design. The engine was totally rebuilt using a balanced Merlin crank and rods, shell bearings with lightened flywheel. New Omega pistons were fitted and the dynamo rebuilt. A 4 branch exhaust manifold has been fitted along with a stainless steel exhaust system.
In more recent years the car has been subject to ongoing maintenance and much expenditure with work being carried out by leading specialists.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a very good example of this highly regarded post vintage thoroughbred Riley with fascinating history.
