1933 Wolseley Hornet Special - Now Sold
NOW SOLD
For many years the Wolseley Hornet Special has been a familiar sight at VSCC meetings, these cars have plenty of character and a really superb exhaust note from their 6 cylinder overhead camshaft engine.
A vast number of coachwork styles were available on the Hornet Special chassis, but arguably the best looking and most purposeful was the ‘Daytona Special’ by Whittingham and Mitchell built for the main Wolseley concessionaires, Eustace Watkins.
Offered here is one such example; a ‘Sanction 78’ model, with all matching numbers, first registered on 21st July 1933.
In the previous owners hands for 25 years, the car was the subject of 3 year restoration from the bare chassis, this being completed in 1995 with the intention being to concentrate on originality and correctness of detail. As a result, this car has always been highly regarded and is an important reference point for anyone restoring a similar model.
The car was off the road in storage between 2008 – 2017 and recent recommissioning work has included dynamo rebuild, rear brake reline, replacement of rear hub bearings and all new fluids and filters.
A joy to drive, with a great soundtrack, this charismatic 1930’s sports car is sure to please.
