1935 Hotchkiss 686 Grand Sport
1935 Hotchkiss 686 Grand Sport, with coachwork in the style of the Works car raced by Mlle Lamberjack in Europe in 1937.
The whole vehicle has been extensively renovated over the past seven years with the chassis placed on a flat-bed and checked for 'truth' and a new body made by Roach Manufacturing.
She has the twin carburettor 3.5 litre engine and is fitted with the rare high-performance cylinder head with sports exhaust.
This car is to standard specification on the short chassis, and thus would be classified by the Vintage Sports Car Club as a standard model.
Brakes are hydraulic, 1935/36 being the only years that these were fitted before Hotchkiss reverted to cable operated Bendix brakes, and wheels are 18", again in the year before the factory fitted 16" wheels and tyres.
The car sits on Blockley tyres ,5.50x18. The engine has been totally renovated and has been tested and tuned on a rolling road. The gearbox was fully rebuilt with all new bearings. In short, anything that needed doing was done with a view to making the car reliable, safe and of high performance.
