The P Type Midget made its debut in March 1934 as the replacement for the J2 model. When road tested by ‘Autocar' magazine later that year, they were very enthusiastic, stating “....This latest model is a marked improvement in all respects over its forerunners..”

The P type was to prove highly successful and received a further boost when later in 1935 it received an uprated engine - now being enlarged to 939cc - which increased power output to 43 bhp. The PB, as this later model was designated, was recognisable from the PA by vertical slats on the radiator.

Two and four seat versions of both models were available, as was a sleek, fastbacked coupe version.

Presented for sale here is a rare PB Four Seat Tourer, finished correctly in the duo tone colour scheme of Dublin and Ulster Green, with green hide interior trim, with matching weather equipment. This car must be the finest available, as it was the subject of a meticulous ten year restoration, which was completed early in 2017. The attention paid to maintaining originality is most impressive - indeed, there is a substantial detailed log of all work from the chassis up included with the vast file of paperwork. The car featured on the cover of the MG Owners’ Club journal ‘Enjoying MG’ in July 2017 and was the subject of a detailed article inside. It should be noted that the registration number shown on the car in this article has now been replaced by a period-correct ‘JB’ series number.

There is interestingly much pre-war correspondence regarding the car together with a number of repair invoices from that period. According to MGCC records, this car Chassis Number PB0295, was built on the 17th September 1935. There is also correspondence from the MG Car Company at Abingdon, relating to the car.

When the engine was rebuilt, a ‘fast road’ camshaft was fitted, as was a Phoenix crankshaft. Since completion of the rebuild, this delightful MG has covered just over 3000 miles and, on the road it is an absolute delight, feeling responsive, taut and with the jewel-like engine emitting a purposeful exhaust note as the revs rise - it is guaranteed to put a smile on the driver’s face!

A true thoroughbred MG, it is sure to please the most discerning enthusiast, especially one who is seeking something a little roomier than the more frequently seen two seater model.
