1936 Austin Light 12/4 Ascot
The Light 12/4 was introduced in late 1932 to fill the gap between the 10hp
range and the larger 12.8 and 16hp models. It was to prove highly
successful, being economical, robust and well appointed in true Austin
tradition. Available in saloon and open tourer versions, it was the Ascot
saloon that was the most popular variant, being a spacious and comfortable
Dating from 1936, this example was the subject of a careful and sympathetic
restoration from the bare chassis around 15 years ago and only around 4000
miles have been covered subsequently.
Finished in maroon and black it has a remarkably well preserved interior, in
tan leather. The sunroof is fully operational and shows no sign of leakage.
The Austin drives very well and pulls strongly up hills.
Catered for by the enthusiastic Austin Ten Drivers’ Club, this car is sure
to please its next custodian. Amongst the paperwork are photos of the
restoration in progress, a number of previous tax discs and MOT certificates
and various bills etc.
