1936 MG ‘NB’ Magnette Four Seat Sports Tourer
Almost certainly the most original surviving NB Magnette
In March 1934, MG replaced the Magna six-cylinder models and were to gain a certain amount of rationalisation of the range. The N Series Magnette was to feature a chassis with outriggers mounted on Silentbloc bushes. The new model was available with two and four-seater bodies from the factory as well as other body styles from specialist coachbuilders, such as Allingham. The ‘Airline’ coupe was also listed, with around 12 being built.
The N type engine - a development of the earlier K Type, displaced 1271cc and had a power output of 56bhp at 5500 rpm, ensuring a lively performance. During 1935, the N Series Magnette was revised, now being designated ‘NB’ and featured front hinged doors, a new instrument panel and the radiator now had a slatted grille. This was to be the last of the overhead camshaft touring models, as the replacement came late in 1936 as the larger VA Series with a 1.5 litre ohv engine.
Offered here is a late model NB Four Seat Tourer, not having been registered until 25th January 1937, the original owner being a doctor who retained the car until 1939. Four subsequent changes of ownership are recorded until the early 1960’s when the current owner acquired the car. Over the ensuing 60 years, the owner - a skilled engineer - has maintained, preserved and conserved the MG and it must surely be unique in having never been restored and remaining to original specification.
Finished in black with red leather interior trim, as it left Abingdon 86 years ago, this MG has the original Instruction Manual and Service Parts List. Two RF60 logbooks are also included.
