1937 Alvis Silver Eagle Tourer - Now Sold
The replacement for the earlier Silver Eagle Model which had first appeared in 1929 the 16hp SF and SG series made their debut in 1934 and ran until 1937.
Significant revisions included a synchromesh gear box and stronger cross-braced chassis. The SG series with the triple carburettor engine developed 66 bhp.
This delightful example, with its original Cross & Ellis sports tourer coachwork, is, in fact, the last Silver Eagle to leave the Coventry factory.
This vehicle has been the recipient of substantial expenditure on refurbishment in recent years which has included replacement of much of the ash bodyframe timber and repainting in the original shade of Carmine Lake.
The original leather interior is particularly impressive given that it is 79 years old, showing that care has clearly been lavished on the car over many years.
The 2362cc engine has been rebored plus 060 thou so the engine now displaces
2.5 litres. On the road, this impressive and comfortable four seat sporting tourer is a joy to drive, with ample power, good brakes and the ability to hold its own in modern traffic. The engine has recently been tuned and set up on a rolling road.
An extensive file of documentation is provided including details of ownership over the last 45 years plus list of work undertaken in recent times and invoices to substantiate. Also included is a copy of the original build record for this vehicle - chassis number 13522. The original distinctive registration number remains with the car and a VSCC Buff Form accompanies the paperwork.
A rare opportunity to acquire a fine post Vintage Thoroughbred with good provenance, being the last of its line.
