1936 Riley 12/4 Lynx

One of the most desirable and sought after of all pre-war Rileys, the 12/4 Lynx offers the ideal balance of sporting performance and practical touring. A comfortable and well-appointed four-door tourer, it combines elegant, flowing lines with genuine usability.

Introduced for the 1935 season and produced in relatively small numbers until the Nuffield takeover in 1938, the Lynx remains one of the most coveted Riley models today.

At its heart is the famous 12/4 engine, introduced in late 1934 and enjoying a long and illustrious career across a wide range of Riley models, as well as notable competition success. With its distinctive twin high camshaft engine, first seen on the Riley Nine in 1926, this power unit is a truly classic design that remained in production through to the final RM series cars of 1955.

This excellent example was first registered in December 1936 and has been in long-term ownership for an impressive 59 years. During this time, it has clearly been cherished and meticulously maintained.

Around ten years ago, the car was the subject of an extensive body-off chassis restoration. The engine was rebuilt with shell big ends, Omega pistons, uprated oil filtration and ‘fast road’ camshafts. A higher rear axle ratio of 4.77 has also been fitted, allowing for more relaxed and enjoyable cruising.

The interior presents very well, with excellent trim throughout, and the car is complete with full weather equipment including hood cover and tonneau.

A substantial history file accompanies the car, detailing work carried out over the years, along with a buff RF60 logbook dating back to 1967 when acquired by its late owner.  She has recently been recommissioned and has a current MOT certificate valid until March 2027.

A rare opportunity to acquire one of the most sought-after Riley models, from long-term ownership and clearly maintained with care and attention over many years.
