1947 MG TC – Presented to Concours standard
Presented in exceptional order throughout, this superb TC is sure to please the most fastidious purchaser
To many MG enthusiasts, the TC is the definitive model of the ‘T’ Series. Still with pre-war appearance and character, but with a few more refinements, including the extra width of the body, giving a less cramped feel in the cockpit. The excellent XPAG Type engine provided brisk acceleration and a top speed of 75 mph - very respectable at that time. Handling was taut and responsive, as was expected from an MG. With some 10.000 examples built between 1945 - 49 and a considerable percentage of these going for export, the TC won many friends both at home and overseas.
This fine example, dating from 1947, was built at Abingdon on 23rd October of that year. Finished in MG Shires Green, with green leather trim, it was exported to New Zealand and supplied to its first owner, a Mrs Bobbie Barwell, on 6th February 1948. Mrs. Barwell was clearly extremely fond of her MG, as she kept it for many years, before passing the car into the hands of its second owner who eventually embarked on a painstaking restoration from the bare chassis.
Such was the standard of the restoration that the car was to achieve several concours awards. The car was to change hands again during 1993. In 2016 the car returned to the UK. At the beginning of 2019 we supplied the car to its current owner, however, a change in personal circumstances has meant, reluctantly, that the car is now offered for sale.
The original Instruction Manual is included, along with extensive paperwork, invoices and history. Seatbelts and flashing indicators have been added for additional safety in today’s traffic.
