1947 Sunbeam Talbot 2 litre Drop Head Coupe - Master Class Concours Winner

Produced between 1939 - 1948, the Sunbeam-Talbot 2 Litre was available as a Sports Saloon, four seat Tourer and Foursome Drophead Coupe. Only a small number were produced in 1939 as the model was introduced only a short time before car production ceased at the outbreak of the Second World War. By the time production of the 2 Litre ceased in 1948, some 1308 of all models had been built.

The Drophead Coupe was by far the rarest variant, with just 67 of these built by E.D. Abbott Ltd of Farnham and, according to the Sunbeam Talbot Alpine Register, only 4 are known to survive in the UK and 2 overseas.

The fine example offered here has covered just 33,750 miles since being supplied by Rootes dealers Tom Garner Motors of Manchester. The first owner was a Mrs Lillian Runbaken, of the famed automotive electrical component company Runbaken Magneto Company. The car remained in this ownership until 1972, whereupon the car was passed to her nephew who kept the car in the family for a further 10 years.

This motor car was the subject of a 5 page feature in 'The Automobile' Magazine in September 1995 and a copy of the magazine is included with the documentation as is a selection of photographs, spare keys, the original instruction handbook and service parts catalogue.

Some years later, a painstaking sympathetic restoration was undertaken. During the past 10 years, the car has been in the care of the Chairman of the Sunbeam-Talbot Alpine Register and has benefited from careful use and been maintained in exemplary condition. The car has won no fewer than 3 Masterclass Concours awards, which are included in the sale.

Several Continental trips have been enjoyed with the car proving totally reliable and the 2 Litre engine giving a comfortable cruising gait of 55 - 60 mph. This model also has the benefit of hydraulic brakes and a ‘Jackall’ hydraulic jacking system is fitted, as is a heater ensuring comfort in colder conditions.

To summarise, this is an exceptional example of this now rare model which attracts much attention wherever it is seen, finished in the striking original colour of metallic blue.
