1954 MG TF 1500
NOW SOLD
As the last of the line of the T Series, The MG TF has always had a special appeal to enthusiasts. The sloping radiator and faired-in headlamps gave the car a most pleasing appearance, without diluting the fact that it was still essentially a “traditional” MG.
Built between October 1953 and April 1955, a considerable proportion went for export, mostly to North America, as the demand for the previous TD model had really started the MG craze in the USA.
From mid – 1954, the 1250 cc engine was to be enlarged to 1466 cc, with the car now designated ‘TF 1500’. Power output was increased to 63 bhp, giving a noticeable boost to performance, with the top speed now in excess of 85mph. From a total production run of 9602, some 3400 TF 1500 models were built, mostly in LHD format.
This example was built in September 1954 and would appear of have been imported around 1991. At this time much refurbishment was undertaken, including conversion to RHD. The recorded mileage which currently stands at around 57500, is said by the owner to be correct. In the present 12 year ownership the engine has been totally rebuilt, with around 1200 miles covered since. A five speed gearbox has also been installed, with renders the car more than capable of holding its own in modern traffic. (The original gearbox will be supplied with the car if required)
Finished in metallic Almond Green and sitting on chrome wire wheels, this is a most attractive example of this iconic model.
Offered reluctantly due to the owner’s failing eyesight, the car comes with much paperwork, including a Heritage Sheet.
