1954 MG TF 1250 – Birch Grey, UK Supplied & Extensive History
Finished in the rare and highly attractive factory colour scheme of Birch Grey with red leather trim and correct beige weather equipment, including its tonneau cover, this charming MG TF 1250 has just arrived at The Garage.
Supplied new by Gibson’s Sports Cars of Christchurch, Dorset, to its first owner on 25th August 1954, the car benefits from an excellent and unusually comprehensive history file, with ownership details recorded throughout much of its life.
The recorded mileage of approximately 59,850 miles also appears to be supported by the accompanying history. An MOT certificate dating from September 1972, when the car was just eighteen years old, records the mileage at 48,819 miles, providing an interesting glimpse into the car’s early life.
A particularly attractive and well-presented example of the final and arguably most refined of the T-Series MGs, the car retains its correct 1250cc XPAG engine, together with the character and charm that have made these post-war sports cars so enduringly popular.
The history file records a comprehensive restoration carried out between 2011 and 2015, supported by numerous invoices, restoration photographs and detailed documentation.
The previous owner enjoyed the car for many years, and today it presents as a mature, well-sorted example that is ready to be driven and enjoyed.
The paintwork presents very well overall and, as one would expect of a sympathetically restored and regularly enjoyed motor car, there are a few very minor paintwork imperfections, entirely consistent with an older restoration. They do not detract from what is an attractive, honest and well-sorted MG TF, ready to be driven and enjoyed.
Interestingly, of approximately 9,600 MG TFs produced, only around 1,057 were supplied new to the UK home market in right-hand drive form, making genuine UK-supplied examples increasingly sought after today.
Combining an attractive original colour scheme, documented history, known ownership and extensive restoration work, this is a highly appealing example of one of Britain’s most admired post-war sports cars.
