1957 Sunbeam Mklll

 

The Sunbeam Talbot 90 was to prove highly successful in major rallies and was outright winner of the 1955 Monte Carlo Rally, with similar models placed 9th and 11th.

This sporting pedigree was to ensure popularity and the cars gained a loyal following which continues to this day.  The 2.3 litre engine gives ample power, ensuring the car can hold its own in modern traffic.

 

The Talbot name was dropped for the last two years of production, with the cars now designated Sunbeam Mklll and an overdrive option was offered, along with two tone paintwork.

 

This 1957 Sunbeam Mklll is one of the very last of this model, having been registered on 22nd May 1957.  She underwent an extensive restoration some years ago resulting in winning an award at the Sunbeam Talbot Alpine Register National Rally, and the car is well known to the Club.

 

Finished in Cactus and Pine Green, she retains her original leather interior and has a factory sunshine roof and overdrive. The engine benefits from an unleaded conversion to the cylinder head when it was rebuilt and a reconditioned overdrive unit has just been fitted. Interestingly, the present owner first acquired the car during the 1990s and re-purchased it in 2016 having been principal of a Roots Group dealership some years ago.

 

There are numerous previous MOT Certificates, plus the original RF60 buff logbook, service book and workshop manual. The original guarantee is also included, showing the car to have been supplied new to a Mr E.A Blackwell of Moseley, Birmingham. 

 

The total recoded mileage now stands at 117,000 - a very modest mileage for a 63-year-old motor car. 

 

A very good all-round example of this quality sporting saloon.
