1958 MG Magnette ZB Varitone
£14,995
1958 MG Magnette ZB Varitone - Just arrived at The Garage and awaiting preparation
The ‘Z’ Series MG Magnette was produced from 1953 - 59, with a total production run of 36,600.
Initially announced as the ‘ZA’, the model received various upgrades to become the ‘ZB’ from late 1956. The engine was now similar to the MGA, with a stronger crankshaft and a boost in power output, now giving 68 bhp, which gave a welcome increase in performance with better acceleration and a maximum speed close to 90 mph.
A ‘Varitone’ model was also available, this being offered in a number of attractive duotone colours and also featuring a wraparound rear window. The ZB was the last MG saloon model to be built at Abingdon, as well as being the first MG model with monocoque construction.
First registered on 20th November 1958, this Varitone is finished in Steel Blue over Mineral Blue and has grey leather trim. Restored to a very good standard some years ago, it has undergone a few modifications to make it very useable in modern traffic - an MGB 5 bearing engine, mated to a 5 speed Ford Sierra gearbox allow for easy cruising and motorway use, whilst braking has been improved by fitment of MGA front discs, with servo assistance. Seat belts have also been fitted.
This very smart Magnette is offered with a large file of documentation, along with a Workshop Manual and the original Driver’s Handbook.
