1960 MGA 1600 Roadster - Original Home Market Example

A fine and well-documented MGA 1600 Roadster, which has certainly benefited from fastidious ownership and considerable expenditure over the years.

First registered in January 1960 to its first owner near Wellington, Somerset, the MG was to pass through several owners, eventually being laid up at the beginning of the 1980s.

It was subsequently to undergo a bare-chassis restoration, which was completed in late 1989.

The restoration was comprehensive. The engine and gearbox were stripped and rebuilt by an MG specialist, with the engine work including a reground crankshaft, rebored block with +30 pistons and new big-end and main bearing shells.

The car was repainted and retrimmed, including the fitment of new De Luxe type seats, hood and sidescreens.

Following restoration, the MGA covered approximately 11,000 miles before being acquired by its present owner on 12th November 2015 for £29,000.

During this ownership, the car has been very carefully maintained and improved. More recently, it has been fitted with a new quality fabric hood, stainless steel boot rack, badge bar and spotlights, together with new chrome wire wheels.

This fine MGA is accompanied by a file of documentation providing a useful record of its restoration, maintenance and ownership.

The MGA 1600 remains one of our firm favourites. We have owned one ourselves for some years and they are highly rewarding cars to drive, as well as being straightforward to maintain and having the considerable advantage of excellent spare parts availability.

This example has the added benefit of known history, an older comprehensive restoration and long-term ownership. Original Home Market examples of the MGA are now quite few and far between and are always keenly sought after.
