Without a doubt, one of the most loved and iconic small cars, the Fiat 500 (the replacement for the original Topolino) enjoyed a production run of 18 years during which time 3.9 million were produced. This diminutive car is as symbolic of Italy as the Morris Minor is to the UK.
The 500 D model was produced between 1960-65 and featured an uprated engine, now displacing 499cc producing 18 bhp. This model also has a sunshine roof as standard.
This Fiat 500D is a 1961 model, finished in Verde Chiaro and is an original LHD example, restored in Italy before being imported to the UK in 2015. The correct 499cc engine is fitted – (engine number: 110D796441).
The car is absolutely pristine both inside and out - since completion of the restoration only around 1700 kms have been covered. A new starter motor and coil have just recently been fitted and the car has been recently fully serviced. The car runs faultlessly and offers characterful and fun minimalist motoring.
The 500 D model is now quite rare and also has all aluminium trim fittings and has rear hinged doors.
There is a build statement from The Fiat Motor Club (GB) confirming the date of manufacture as 2ndMay 1961.
The restoration was completed to a high standard – not to be confused with so many ‘restored’ examples of the Fiat 500.
The current owner is reducing his rather large collection.
Among the documentation supplied is the Italian registration certificate and many bills from Fiat Specialists Ricambio International.
