1969 Gilbern Invader - Now Sold
Gilbern Sports Cars was founded in 1959 and until 1973 was to produce llimited runs of stylish sports coupes using BMC and Ford components. Their final offering was the 'Invader' which was introduced in July 1969 and based largely on the previous model - The Genie but boasting improved brakes and a stronger chassis. The Ford V6 3 litre engine was retained, however the front suspension on the Invador was now of the MGC type. This new model was a move further upmarket and featured electric windows and walnut veneer trim in the cabin. From 1970 it was available as a complete car as well as in kit form and a choice of automatic or manual/overdrive transmission were available.
Presented here is an early model (Chassis 005) which has been in the current ownership for the past 13 years. The car has been the subject much recent expenditure including a rebuilt engine (now bored to 3.1 litre) which is still to be run in. Power steering has been fitted and the alloy wheels refurbished. A full Webasto type sunroof is also fitted.
Strikingly finished in Red the car has some paint blemishes in parts but presents very well overall. Thousands have been spent in the last few years and a large file of bills substitates the expenditure. The car is offered for sale reluctantly as the owner is involved with another restoration project.
Between 1969 and 1973 just 603 Invaders were built and it is now quite a rare motor car.
