50th National Austin 7 Rally at Beaulieu - Sunday 1st July 2012
We attended this great event - as always a fantastic array of cars. It is remarkable just how many variants of this legendary little machine were available.
We drove to Beaulieu in a rare 1938 Austin 10 Conway Cabriolet, which we are currently preparing for sale. Our favourite A7's included the delightful ex-Works Grasshopper, one of just 12 built and the Swallow models, which were truly charming. Another rarity was the Gordon England "Cup Model" 2 seater, which as totally original and sported a number of delightful period accessories.
I met a chap with a car I had known for many years - he'd just acquired it and was over the moon when I was able to fill him in with much of its history he was unaware of.
All in all, a great day, despite the bitterly cold wind which made it feel more like January than July!
Next up on the calendar are the Austin Ten Drivers' Club National Event - 13th, 14th and 15th July in Basingstoke.
Then followed by Pre-war Prescott - on Saturday 21st July which we will be attending in a 1932 Riley 14/6 Stelvio - a busy month indeed!
