Former Kent Constabulary Car

A particularly interesting MG TA with documented early Police history, a comprehensive nut and bolt restoration and a correct MPJG engine.

We are delighted to welcome back this exceptionally smart 1938 MG TA, a car we know well having previously sold it to its current owner.

What makes this example especially interesting is its early history. The accompanying history file records that the MG was supplied new to Kent Constabulary. MGs were used by a number of British Police forces during the late 1930s, giving this particular TA a fascinating connection with pre-war motoring history.

The car was subsequently the subject of a meticulous nut and bolt restoration from the bare chassis, with a comprehensive photographic record documenting the work. Although now an older restoration, it has been very well cared for and remains in particularly smart condition throughout.

A correct MPJG engine is fitted, making the car VSCC eligible.

Finished in a very attractive two-tone green with complementary green upholstery, it is a beautifully presented TA with tremendous period character.

Introduced in 1936 as the successor to the PB Midget, the TA brought a longer wheelbase and wider track, providing more cockpit space and improved ride quality. Its 1,292cc pushrod engine, developed from the Wolseley 10 unit and fitted with twin SU carburettors, produced around 50 bhp and gave the new Midget performance approaching 80 mph.

With its documented Kent Constabulary connection, comprehensive restoration record and handsome presentation, this is an MG TA with rather more of a story to tell than most.
